St. Joseph Hospice Volunteers help by providing a wide range of services to patients and the SJH team. They can do crafts, read, run errands, light house chores, light meal prep, provide music or pet therapy, as well as just provide companionship to patients. They can also assist with performing light office work, provide professional services and education about hospice care, and assist with special projects such as minor house repairs and yard work, or SJH fundraisers.
Hospice began with volunteers. St. Joseph Hospice still keeps that tradition alive by having a trained group of volunteers. Our agency provides care to terminally ill patients. We focus on pain and symptom control so the patient can be as comfortable and happy as possible. Our staff consists of medical directors, nurses, social workers, bereavement counselors, chaplains, and nurses aids. Hospice care is holistic care which focuses on the physical, spiritual, and mental aspects of well-being. We want our patients to have the best quality of life so they can enjoy the time they have with their family and friends. St. Joseph Hospice of Cenla provides care in the home as well as nursing home and other assisted living facilities.
