The Supportive Televisiting Program connects children and youth with their incarcerated parent, as well as incarcerated youth with their families, by means of a secure and confidential video link directly into the jails and prisons. Regular televisits are an important mental health supportive service and are supervised by a clinical psychologist. This service enables a child to maintain an emotional tie with his or her parent pending the separation of incarceration. It also enables the incarcerated parent to maintain a connection with his or her family which facilitates a more successful reentry when the term is complete. The service is provided by the Social Service Board, the social service arm of the N.Y. Society for Ethical Culture, a progressive and socially activist community in NYC for over 140 years.
