CPSR-Perú

CPSR-Perú works to influence decisions regarding the development and use of information and communication technology in Peru, because those decisions have far-reaching consequences and reflect our basic values and priorities. As technical experts, CPSR-Perú will provide the public and policymaker with realistic assessments of the power, promise, and limitations of ICT and computer technology. As concerned citizens, we direct public attention to critical choices concerning the applications of ICT and how those choices affect the Peruvian Society. In both spheres, social and individual, we will remember our cultural particularity like Peruvians, Spanish-speaking, with a philosophical and legal tradition of the Continental Europe, that live in a multicultural, multiethnic, unequal social-economic country, but with visions and objectives coincident with CPSR aims and ideology, factors that motivate us to create the Peruvian chapter. In that sense, according to CPSR`s mission, every project of CPSR-Peru will based on five principles: 1. We foster and support public discussion of, and public responsibility for decisions involving the use of computers in systems critical to society. 2. We work to dispel popular myths about the infallibility of technological systems. 3. We challenge the assumption that technology alone can solve political and social problems. 4. We critically examine social and technical issues within the computer profession, both nationally and internationally. 5. We encourage the use of information technology to improve the quality of life.
