The Flint Institute of Music, a non-profit organization, is the umbrella for the Flint Symphony Orchestra and Flint School of Performing Arts. With music and dance performance and education opportunities, the FIM serves more than 240,000 people from a 13-county region in Southeast Michigan.

The FSO is led by the immensely talented and personable conductor, Enrique Diemecke. Together, they have brought a level of excitement and enjoyment to Flint audiences through the FSO Classical Concert Series, as well as Nutcracker and Holiday Pops.

The Flint School of Performing Arts is the largest community arts school in Michigan with 3,900 students, more than half of whom receive financial assistance. It is a place for everyone, no matter their age or ability. The Early Childhood Division features classes for infants to six-year-olds, as well as an arts preschool, which is made available through state funding to at-risk four-year-olds free of charge. The music division offers private lessons, as well as two dozen ensembles, providing outstanding opportunities for children to seniors to study music. The dance division offers creative movement and hip-hop classes, as well as a top-level ballet curriculum up to the pre-professional level.

The FIM also provides a number of outreach programs to take its outstanding music and dance offers to everyone in the community.
