Acerca de

Multicolores was founded in March 2014 as a nonprofit organization based in Panajachel, Guatemala. The Association is currently made up of 6 staff, 42 Maya rug hookers and 25 Maya embroiderers. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of Maya artisans and their families through access to income earning opportunities and programs which support handcraft production and encourage personal growth. Multicolores also promotes well-being and improved livelihoods through for example a nutrition and health program, leadership program and good working practices and conditions.


All members of Multicolores, staff and artisans, share our core values of: respect, cooperation, solidarity, humility, perseverance, social commitment, excellence and humanity.


Our organizational objectives are as follows:

(a) to support and motivate artisans so that they can access more development opportunities;

(b) to help artisans discover their artistic talents through personal development and training;

(c) to build relationships between local and international communities through cultural exchanges;

(d) to promote the improvement and quality of the craft;

(e) to promote the conservation of the natural environment through the use of recyclable materials;

(f) to promote social awareness, solidarity and mutual assistance.

2015: Multicolores President, Reyna Pretzantzin, and Board Member, Yolanda Calgua Morales, were invited by network Channel 7 in Guatemala to appear on 'our world in the morning' to talk about 'the rug hooking project - from rags to rugs'!
