Founded in 1850 by Gold Rush pioneers, Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties is a catalyst for change, transforming our deeply held belief in the intrinsic value of each human life into a creative vision for alleviating suffering, enhancing potential and healing all who are in need -- from cradle to rocking chair.

Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties is the oldest social service agency west of the Mississippi. Since its inception, JFCS has provided people with the encouragement and tools they need to become productive, self-reliant members of society. With over 40 programs that address a wide range of service needs, JFCS empowers people of all ages, faiths and ethnic backgrounds, to live productive and healthy lives by providing a hand-up, not a handout. To accomplish its goals, JFCS relies on its professional staff and on thousands of acts of lovingkindness performed by its more than 2,000 dedicated volunteers who give of themselves to create a more caring community.
