HCWF’s mission is to conserve the last parcel of wilderness in the Hoffler Creek watershed for environmental education, research, and recreation consistent with good stewardship. The 142-acre Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve is a suburban wilderness set aside for plants and animals at the heart of the Chesapeake Bay’s unique ecosystem. Diverse habitats and abundant wildlife at HCWP spark the imagination, inviting visitors to explore their natural heritage through science, history, and the arts. Facilities include an education pavilion, an oyster pier, a boat dock, a wet lab, a wetlands observation deck, a lake observation deck, three bird blinds, five hiking trails, and seasonal kayak rentals. Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve is part of the National Park Service’s Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network and the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. It is an attraction on the Department of Game & Inland Fisheries Birding and Wildlife Trail, and a Schoolyard Habitats Site certified by the National Wildlife Federation.
