Mission Statement

We who recognize God's providence and fidelity to his people are dedicated to living out his covenant among ourselves and those children we serve, with absolute respect and unconditional love. That commitment calls us to serve suffering children of the street, and to protect and safeguard all children. Just as Christ, in his humanity, is the visible sign of God's presence among his people, so our efforts together in the covenant community are a visible sign that effects the presence of God, working through the Holy Spirit among ourselves and our kids Street Outreach

Life’s most basic necessities can seem almost unattainable to the increased number of young people who are lost to street life. And to help address the needs of the youth who face that reality daily, CHM formed a Street Outreach Team to seek out youth where they congregate, establish trusting relationships and offer them alternatives to their desperate situations. The Outreach staff provides counseling, food, personal hygiene kits, minor medical attention, and transportation to the Community Service Centers or the Crisis Center for intake or additional assistance and referrals. In October 2000, CHM opened the doors of the Rights of Passage transitional living program. This stay-off-the-streets program marked an extension of CHM’s success in helping homeless youth. In this program we help kids take control of their future. We offer a safe and stable environment young people can call "home" by creating a family atmosphere along with structure and resources for them to focus on pursuing their goals while preparing for the responsibilities of adulthood. ROP is an outlet for exploring and developing spiritual, emotional, social, political, physical and cultural values. Residents are assigned a counselor and a mentor and receive individual and group counseling, medical care and educational and vocational assistance. But most importantly, they learn independent living skills.

ROP is a loving, caring, and supportive environment where we take care of the basic needs of young people so they can focus on spiritual, emotional and intellectual growth.

Community Service Centers

Located on the east and southwest sides of Detroit, our two neighborhood-based Community Service Centers offer prevention programs for youth in high-risk situations. The Centers provide kids with a positive alternative before their situation gets out of control. Services include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, life skills workshops, tutoring, violence prevention, parenting skills for young mothers and fathers, mentoring programs, GED preparation, English classes, workshops to enhance spiritual values, computer classes and substance abuse prevention.Since 1997, the Centers have helped some 12,000 kids Job Development Center

The Job Development Center has a clear mission: Provide young adults with the tools needed to compete in a highly competitive job market. With services like GED preparation, job placement, skill assessment, career exploration, job development, one-on-one coaching, and other employment-specific services, the youth that we serve are being well equipped for future success. The JDC is one of our most celebrated programs, as we continue to help CHM youth obtain, maintain, succeed and advance at work.
