Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity

BACKGROUND

Theta Phi Alpha, a social women’s fraternal organization, was founded in 1912 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Founders sought to provide an experience for college-aged women that reflected the organization’s founding values: justice, truth, faith, wisdom, loyalty, and honor. Today, Theta Phi Alpha’s mission is to promote, encourage, and advance a lifelong commitment to friendship, integrity, and spiritual development. Through values-based education and service endeavors the women of Theta Phi Alpha become engaged in our organization and communities. Theta Phi Alpha’s vision is to develop women of character, compassion, creativity, and confidence.

Theta Phi Alpha’s membership has grown to over 25,000 women worldwide, with 56 collegiate chapters and 31 alumnae associations, and four alumnae clubs across the United States. Supporting our members effectively requires an organizational structure that accommodates the needs of a federated membership association. Theta Phi Alpha is incorporated as a 501(c)(7), and is supported by the Theta Phi Alpha Foundation, a 501(c)(3).

Theta Phi Alpha has a biennial operating budget of approximately $1.5 million; 3.5 FTE employees as well as three Leadership Consultants; headquarters in the Bay Village suburb of Cleveland, Ohio; and a Grand Council (board of directors) comprised of seven volunteer leaders.
