St.Luke's Interior Mission welfare society.(SLIMS) By nature a non-profitable social organization to serve the socially backward and under privileged Communities of the rural and tribal areas of coastal Andhra pradesh by way of the sectoral issues like Health, Education, and Women empowerment.

The executives of the society are resourceful in development of the above sectoral interventions. The president of the Society is a professionally qualified Doctor. His background is that his Father is also a Doctor in the rural section of the vaddadi and madugula, who has been serving the communities since 40 years. With a vision to empower the rural communities and health awareness among the rural and tribal folk. They established the organization in the year 1997.Since then they are serving rural people establishing their office at Vaddadi village of Butchayyapeta Mandal.

Demography of area : The population of the visakhapatnam dt { which is the main and central dt for the society activities } 32-85 lakhs ,the area of the district is 11161 sq. kilometers . The schedule tribe population is nearly 4.68 lakhs . There are 3132 villages in the district, 43 revenue mandals and 47 notified gram panchayats . There are 11tribal mandals and 3 revenue divisions. The Organization is situated in between the three revenue mandals and it is in the vicinity of chodavaram,Madugula,Butchiyyapeta,Paderu, and Ravikamatham mandals.

There is lot of scope for the various service activities, since these areas are economically backward. The economical status of people is below poverty line. The rate of literacy is low when compared to other mandals .The general hygienic condition of people is poor. Hence there is need for attention to these issues by many fold activities.

The activities of the society, during the past few years ,Our society got involved itself in activities like, conducting awareness camps regarding nutrition, immunisation, maternal and child health care, safe drinking water and sanitation.

The Organisation is involved in conducting immunization camps regularly and conducted general health checkup camps to identify general health problems and general health condition of the majority of the poor people, and distributed medicines to the needy. Conducted AIDS awareness camps among student communities and conducted elocution competitions, awarded prizes to winners

Society feels one of the vital components of integrated rural development program is HEALTH. There is strong correlation between health and other aspects of quality of life. One of the main objectives of SLIMS is to provide Primary health care to the people residing in rural and tribal areas around the SLIMS. Priority is given to the most vulnerable and most in need. Emphasis will be placed on the development of community based health programs. Poverty, illiteracy, and lack of health education are the major factors, which lead to the majority of diseases suffered by poor, and also poverty is the social state which drastically reduce the access of the poor to health care resources making them vulnerable to chronic fatal diseases. In spite of vigorous measures taken to control blindness through NPCB, still cataract is major cause of blindness in this area. Which is basically a disease of old, neglected age group of society. SLIMS Running a nursing home and serving people in the vicinity with general health, surgical work and ophthalmic screening, surgeries. SLIMS Started an Eye clinic, in Memory of Smt.T.MARYKUTTY and named as SMT.T.MARYKUTTY MEMORIAL RURAL EYE CARE CENTRE.The EYE Care Centre has got basic infrastructure like, wards, beds, operation theatre, surgical microscope, slit lamp, Instruments for IOL Surgery and other Ophthalmic surgeries.The EYE Care Centre now doing IOL Surgeries and other ocular surgeries . SLIMS Planning to conduct rural eye camps as part of Rural Community out reach programme and surgeries at base hospital.

SLIMS appointed proper and eligible staff for attending these purposes. ALL the activities and day to day developments of the organization will be looked after by the president of the society and paid project director, who is highly qualified and experienced in social mobilization( Mr.T.D. Rajkumar M.A, M.A, B.ed).
