Use open legal data and tools to make the legal system more equitable and efficient.

    Acerca de

Started in 2010, Free Law Project is a small non-profit out of Oakland that works to make the legal system more equitable and efficient. We do this via technical initiatives and advocacy work. Our most popular technical project is CourtListener.com, where we get a million visitors per month, and house information on more than 150 million legal records. We have the larges collection of oral argument audio on the internet and a detailed database of judges.

Our RECAP Extension is used by thousands of journalists each day to keep track of the raw legal documents that you hear about in the news. As they use the extension to purchase records from the government, we get copies of those records to share with the public.

On the advocacy side, we work to open up courts, and to make the judicial branch more transparent.
