Operation Smile South Africa

  • Acerca de

More than 200,000 children are born with a severe facial cleft condition each year. These children are often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile resulting in them being shunned and rejected. In too many cases, their parents can't afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a normal life.

Operation Smile South Africa (OSSA) was established in 2006 and has changed more than 1300 children’s lives by providing free surgical and follow-up care during medical missions conducted in South Africa, Madagascar, Rwanda, Swaziland, and the DRC. The organisation’s goal has always been to train the medical professionals in the countries in which they work to be self sustaining.
