The Community of Medhane Alem is an interdenominational contemplative mission in Benedictine tradition. We provide services of spiritual ministry, education, and formation rooted in the desert spiritual tradition of ancient northeast African Christianity, and seek to develop a contemporary monastic community (without walls) of disciples centered in the gospel of Jesus; rooted in the spiritual disciplines of the desert, and actively engaged in a life of mission among the underserved, disenfranchised, marginalized, and alienated.
