Acerca de

Camillus House has provided humanitarian services to the poor and homeless populations of Miami-Dade County, Florida for more than 50 years. Founded in 1960 by Brother Mathias Barrett, BGS, to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of Cuban exiles living along the Biscayne Bay shoreline in downtown Miami, Camillus House (Camillus) has grown from a simple soup kitchen operating out of a rented house near the Bay, to one of the most easily identifiable, highly respected and effective human service organizations offering a comprehensive continuum of care to the poor and homeless in the region.

The mission of Camillus House is to provide compassionate hospitality and respect for life through direct services of food, clothing, shelter, addiction counseling, behavioral health services, job training, and health care to the poor and homeless of South Florida. Camillus now operates in 16 locations and serves more than 12,000 persons annually and with a current capacity to house over 1,000 persons a night, Camillus is one of the largest providers in the Southeastern US of housing services for the homeless.

Fully integrated programs and services are provided through multiple core competency areas:

- Compassionate Hospitality: includes services such as shelter, clothing, showers, telephone, mail services and case management as well as daily meals, snacks, food boxes and food distribution.

- Comprehensive Healing: includes primary, preventative and supplemental services as well as residential and outpatient treatment for mental illness, addiction, and/or co-occurring disorders through Camillus House's Institute for Social & Personal Adjustment (ISPA).

- Continuum of Housing: includes transitional and permanent supported housing in 16 programs located throughout the County with lengths of stay ranging from one night to lifelong. Camillus also serves as the central call center for persons in Miami-Dade County calling the Homeless HelpLine.

-Career Help: includes on-the-job training and placement through our Job Opportunity Bureau (JOB) Employment Program.
