We are looking for Travel Volunteers to support young people, living through and beyond cancer, to travel to and from trips Isle of Wight & Largs.

Short on time but still want to make a massive difference? By travelling with young people to and from their trip, you can still be part of the team and set the tone of the ‘magic’ right from young people’s first contact with us. It's a bitesize way to make a huge difference.

Travel volunteers are essential for young people to be able to get to, and benefit, from a trip – without you they can’t get there.

It's also an awesome way to see first-hand the difference in young people at the start and end of trip, and gain experience of working with young people in a volunteer capacity – beneficial to any future trip volunteer application.

If you want, you can also join the start of the trip for games and ice-breakers and/or be there for the always incredible 'best bit, worst bit, funniest bit' on the last day.

Travel for our sailing trips will be to/from Cowes, Isle of Wight or Largs, Scotland. We also offer outdoor adventure trips in the Lake District and in Wales.

What the role involves?

Travel can be by train, minibus or plane and the volunteers accompany, typically, a group of young people on their journey, ensuring they have all the kit they need (including medications) and are safe and comfortable on their journey.

You will not have to use your own vehicle for travel.

When can I be a Travel Volunteer?

Our trips run from May - September. Trips are 4 or 5 days long and usually start on a Monday. Travel support is needed on the first and last day of a trip.

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged 8-24(ish) to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer.

For many young people, picking up from where they left off before cancer is not possible. When

treatment ends our work begins. We inspire young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future through free sailing and outdoor adventures.

Cancer can have a big impact on a young person’s mental wellbeing beyond treatment.

When a young person gets the ‘all clear' from cancer, there is an expectation of happiness and returning to ‘normal’. But what is ‘normal’ now? Their whole world has changed. The future can feel daunting and overwhelming.

For many, simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isn’t possible. That's when our work begins.

Any young person who has been treated for cancer from across the UK can join us for a free transformational four-day sailing experience from Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, or Largs on Scotland's West Coast.

Many young people need support over time too. So, once a young person has been sailing with us, they can keep coming back for more sailing or outdoor adventures.

Although our pick up points are nationwide, there are some locations where we are often short of travel volunteers, so we are especially looking for travel volunteers able to cover the following areas:
