Soroban League North America

Building confident learners. Connecting cultures. Inspiring the next generation through soroban.

Soroban League North America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing soroban—the Japanese abacus—and connecting teachers, students, and families across North America and beyond.

Our mission goes beyond calculation. We champion concentration, confidence, perseverance, and the steady practice that builds a strong foundation for lifelong learning. We believe every child deserves opportunities to experience the pride of progress and discover what they can achieve.

Through examinations, competitions, educator collaboration, and international exchange, we create opportunities to learn, grow, and connect. Our International Abacus Classic builds a bridge between North America and Japan while welcoming students from other countries to share their skills, celebrate their efforts, and build friendships across cultures.

We value integrity, respect, cultural understanding, and meaningful growth through sustained effort. Together with volunteers and international partners, we carry this Japanese learning tradition forward—helping young people build confidence in themselves and connections with the world.
