Faith Network was founded in 2001 to help build healthy children and families by networking community support for under-resourced urban schools. Because it does take a village to educate our children, Faith Network is tapping and aligning resources from a broad coalition of community partners. Human capital is our most important resource. Individual volunteer tutors and mentors, building one-on-one relationships with atpromise youth, is at Faith Network’s epicenter.
Faith Network programs include:
Ø Succeeding by Reading: one-on-one literacy tutoring, take-home book bags, school library support.
Ø Science Horizons: hands-on science lessons, STEM labs, math tutoring, field trips to Berkeley Lab, family science nights and outdoor education.
Ø CareerBridge: providing high school youth with individual mentorship and workplace internship with stipend, including life skill and academic enrichment.
Ø Health4Kids: volunteers bag approximately 3,800 nutritious food bags monthly for the most vulnerable children to take home on the weekends, in conjunction with Alameda County Food Bank’s “Back Pack” program.
Faith Network’s annual operating budget of $750,000 supports a full-time and part-time staff of eleven, plus over two hundred volunteers. Administrative offices are located in the heart of downtown Oakland at Telegraph Avenue and 27th Street.
