Heifer International South Africa

Heifer International South Africa partners with improverished communities to end hunger and poverty in South Africa and care for the Earth. 12 million people in South Africa face food insecurity every day, 70 per cent of them in rural areas. Heifer provides farmers with intensive training, gifts of trees, seeds and farm animals and ongoing support for 3-5 years until farmer groups are self-reliant and can build their own future. At the end of each year, every family passes on the equivalent of what they received to another needy family (Passing on the Gift), growing the project and creating an opportunity for more and more families to move from poverty and hunger to self-reliance and sustainability. Heifer International South Africa currently works in Limpopo Province, Eastern Cape Province and KwaZulu-Natal Province.
