Steven Temple Church of God in Christ

Camp Sunshine offered by Steven Temple Church delivers a full-day, eight-week day camp for children to reduce summer learning loss. Students ages 4 - 12 are instructed through fun and interactive STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) modules in math, science, language arts and physical and nutrition education. Adolescents age 13-17 are given the opportunity to be trained as a counselor-in-training to practice leadership skills and be a role model under the supervision of adult counselors. Reducing loss of learning is our foremost goal, yet we strive to offer a holistic approach which includes cultural arts, field exploration and healthy meals.

Camp Sunshine provides an enjoyable and safe environment for youth in the community to learn, live and laugh during the summer months. Working with diverse volunteers from aquatics, science, arts, technology, music and sports, we are able to provide a quality program for our campers. With caring, passionate and well-versed volunteers, we are able to not only reduce the loss of learning but increase knowledge during the summer. We are able to provide evidence based on pre and post academia and health assessments, reading logs, and daily participation.
