ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: ****We are physically located in Macon County, Alabama, about 12 miles south of Tuskegee.**** Founded in 2011, the mission of The Ridge Macon County Archaeology Project (TRMCAP) is to provide interactive educational programs and events to tell the stories of the Native American, free and enslaved people who were pioneer immigrants and travelers on the Old Federal Road into the Alabama frontier during the 1800s. We are housed in an Interpretive Center located in the Warrior Stand community in Macon County, about twelve miles south of Tuskegee, Alabama. Our site includes an archaeological excavation pit. TRMCAP’s project area consists of the historic Boromville, Creek Stand and Warrior Stand communities and nearby locations that comprise rural southeast Macon County, Alabama. We conduct archaeological exploration and historical research to collect, preserve and display artifacts, records and information from documented and oral history resources. Our goals include sustaining historic preservation accomplishments through partnership with the local community and historic preservation stakeholders, and building capacity for community-based tourism (CBT) and rural heritage development.
