Our mission at Willowwind School is to develop in our students: Curiosity and a love for learning Self-esteem and self-discipline, combined with social consciousness Emotional sensitivity and respect for others The ability to think flexibly and critically, to problem solve and to express themselves clearly and constructively The acquisition of academic skills and creative pursuits And an appreciation and respect for other cultures, religious and ethnic backgrounds, and for the natural world
Willowwind is a dually accredited school, receiving accreditation from both the State of Iowa and from ISACS- the Independent School Association of the Central States. While our state accreditation validates Willowwind as a high performing school, our secondary accreditation allows for the autonomy in creating a more diverse curriculum. Specialist teachers provide an expanded exploration of a Humanities based curriculum. Art, music, world cultures and languages, are at the center of the Willowwind experience. These programs begin with our youngest learners and continue through a student's time here. While many schools face the decision of cutting humanities from their curriculum, Willowwind recognizes the importance of these areas in the development of life-long learners. Willowwind also works intentionally on the social and emotional development of each child through our character education curriculum. This additional investment in our students further enhances their educational experience.
