The St. Eustatius Center for Archaeological Research seeks to uncover, preserve, and protect the historical resources and heritage of St. Eustatius through research, development, and help from volunteers.
We are a small non-profit located on the small volcanic island of St. Eustatius in the Dutch Caribbean. We give our volunteers the opportunity to explore the history of this island, while enjoying the relaxed Caribbean lifestyle.
Our most current research is taking place at the Fair Play Plantation, an 18th century sugar plantation with the only standing windmill on the island. We have identified over ten structures thus far, and are hoping to discover more, with the help of our volunteers.
Volunteers will have the chance to learn about archaeological research methods such as excavation, mapping, survey, GIS, artifact identification and analysis, and laboratory techniques. We also have some underwater research opportunities in 2015.
