Columbia University Division of Infectious Diseases

Acerca de

The Division of Infectious Diseases at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is devoted to excellence in patient care, research, and teaching, and to developing the next generation of leaders in academic medicine and public health. Located in upper Manhattan and affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the division consists of over 40 full-time, affiliated, and adjunct faculty members who individually have a broad range of interests but work collectively to achieve this goal.

The division administers several essential clinical services at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. These include the general infectious diseases consultation service, the transplant infectious diseases consultation service, and the infectious diseases inpatient service, a housestaff team dedicated primarily to the care of patients with HIV and tuberculosis. Additional hospital-based initiatives led by division faculty and staff include the antimicrobial stewardship program, the infection prevention and control program, the extended antibiotic infusion service, and the CUIMC biocontainment intensive care unit, a New York state-designated Ebola care center. In the ambulatory setting, our division’s comprehensive HIV/AIDS program provides multidisciplinary, coordinated care to over 2,200 community members living with HIV infection. Division faculty members also offer outpatient consultations in general infectious diseases, travel medicine, and transplant infectious diseases.

In addition to its clinical operations, the division supports a rich research program of basic science, translational, and clinical investigation in both the hospital and community settings. The Columbia University Center for HIV Prevention and Treatment Research conducts studies on novel drug development, optimization of antiretroviral therapy, HIV translational science, and HIV vaccine safety and efficacy. The division also supports active research in bacterial pathogenesis, transplant immunology, molecular epidemiology, health care epidemiology, and antimicrobial resistance. Close relationships with other divisions, departments, and colleges within Columbia University further facilitate research and training opportunities both domestically and internationally.
