The Low Income Housing Institute develops, owns and operates housing for the benefit of low-income, homeless and formerly homeless people in Washington State; advocates for just housing policies at the local and national levels; and administers a range of supportive service programs to assist those we serve in maintaining stable housing and increasing their self-sufficiency.
Over the past 20 years, LIHI has become one of the largest nonprofit housing organizations in Seattle currently operating 50 properties containing more than 1,780 housing units. LIHI provides affordable housing to 3,900 low income, homeless and formerly homeless people, including over 700 families, in six counties across the Puget Sound region.
These housing developments have not only helped thousands of low-income families and individuals but have had an economic impact on the region in construction activity and revenue.
In addition to providing homes, LIHI also operates The Urban Rest Stop where homeless men, women and children can access free restrooms, showers and laundry facilities within a clean, safe and dignified environment. This unique award winning hygiene center serves 500 people each day.
