The America Reads and Counts programs are for Duke students who wish to tutor children in K-8th grade in reading and mathematics. Tutoring positions are open to volunteers as well as students eligible for federal work-study who are seeking paid employment.
WRITE Now! is a volunteer literacy program focused on creative writing techniques and strategies that will assist fourth grade students as they prepare for the North Carolina Writing Assessment Test each spring. Duke students provide small group tutoring in rotating morning work centers using creative word games such as Boggle and word find puzzles to help students build their vocabulary and grow comfortable with writing assignments similar to what they may be requiredto do in order to pass the end-of-grade assessment.
