Acerca de

Global Parks is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization formed to organize and support a Volunteer Cadre of retired conservation professionals to support national systems of protected areas and supporting institutions around the world.

A large wave of conservation professionals are retiring from government and other institutions in the USA and other countries. Each of these individuals have 30+ years of relevant knowledge, experience, and professional networks that collectively represent a pool of human capacity unmatched in diversity, depth, and quality that can be systematically applied to improve the stewardship of natural systems around the world.

Effectively managed Protected Areas contribute to national policy development, priorities, stability, security and the well being of a society and the planet. Protected Areas are among the few relatively undisturbed areas left on earth and represent ideal centers for monitoring and mitigating climate change, preserving biodiversity, enabling humans to adapt to food insecurity and are often regional economic engines. Protected areas in developing countries are particularly important and threatened.

To realize these benefits, protected areas must be 1. Legally designated and 2. Effectively managed. Although there has been a 60% increase in new protected areas globally, the capacity to manage them is largely non-existent. Retired U.S. conservation managers are uniquely capable of developing this capacity.

Global Parks Vision

Every country has the human and institutional capacity to effectively preserve and manage a system of national parks and protected areas that reflect its natural and cultural heritage.

Mission

Global Parks mobilizes a cadre of veteran conservation professionals to transfer knowledge, experience, and proven methodologies that strengthen protected areas and national park systems world-wide.

How We Accomplish Our Mission

The Global Parks Mission is accomplished through professional assessment of needs, collaboration with partners, and systematic application of expert volunteer professionals. Implementation may include applied technical assistance, planning, training, program evaluation emphasizing adaptive management and the critical provision of ongoing support.
