Discovery Woods Learning Community

Discovery Woods is a preschool to 3rd-grade outdoor immersion school. We use the wise traditions of the past, and appreciation for nature to teach literacy, math, science and other academics through place- and project-based exploration. We also prioritize nutrition for personal health and sustainability – we nourish our bodies and our minds as we respect and care for the earth. In 2011, we founded the the “Farm Project,” a program dedicated to creating suburban microfarms for food and education, with one located on our own campus. There we teach our students how to grow vegetables and raise animals. Our chicken, duck and quail eggs and four-season half-acre raised-bed garden sustain our students and staff, and when we purchase from outside sources, we almost exclusively use local farms and services.
