YouthBuild of Las Vegas AmeriCorps

YouthBuild Las Vegas is a comprehensive youth and community development program. It simultaneously addresses several core issues facing low-income communities: education, housing, jobs, and leadership development. Furthermore, the program uniquely addresses the status of unemployed young men and women who have dropped out of school and have no apparent path to a productive future.

The YouthBuild program has been carefully designed by community activists with the input of young people in several neighborhoods over the previous 20 years. Young people of many racial and ethnic groups have participated and benefited.

Participating in YouthBuild Las Vegas

Participants in the program work toward their high school diploma or GED while learning vocational skills by building or refurbishing low-income houses, community cleanup, and more. Furthermore, individuals are provided quality hands-on training, classroom instruction, opportunities to improve their community, supportive services, assistance in finding and maintaining employment, and developing their leadership skills and abilities. YouthBuild Las Vegas participants must:

• Be 18 – 24 years old
• Be in need of their high school diploma or GED
• Have an interest in learning construction skills
• Commit to the 9-month program, full time
• Provide required documentation to determine eligibility
• Be committed to positive progress for themselves, their family and their community
