FIRST STEP ALLIANCE

First Step Alliance is a New Jersey registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, started by experienced financial services professionals and formerly incarcerated community leaders passionate about advocating on behalf of justice-impacted individuals. We work in partnership with re-entry and other organizations to provide returning citizens with access to financial education and second chance banking programs. Our Fresh Start Financial Education Program includes a free online learning platform with many important financial topics and individual credit counseling services. Participants may also be eligible for our Fresh Start Banking Program, including a low-cost, no minimum checking account, debit card, online and mobile banking, direct deposit, and a secured credit card to help rebuild credit.

Removing barriers to mainstream financial services helps returning citizens create a path to a healthy financial future, achieve economic empowerment and can reduce recidivism.
