The Association for People with Disabilities 'Helping Hands Centre'

The Association for People with Disabilities was incorporated as an NGO in 1994 and registered and officially opened its Helping Hands Centre in 2001. The Helping Hands Centre is a non-profit educational facility that serves children with all types of disabilities. APD’s early intervention program is aimed specifically towards the development of children with disabilities and helping each child to develop to their fullest potential. The centre is at the focal point for parents to increase their knowledge about his/her child’s disability and helps them to cope with some of the issues in raising a disabled child.

The primary objective for the Helping Hands Centre is to develop the children’s daily living skills, which includes: • Gross and fine motor skills • Language training • Self help • Socialization • Parent training

The Helping Hands Centre ensures that children receive life skills training and receive basic needs. The Centre works in conjunction with other community groups and organizations to make sure that happens.
