Northland Therapeutic Riding Center

Northland Therapeutic Riding Center (NTRC) aims to improves the quality of life for people with disabilities through equine assisted services. Together with our dedicated volunteers, we foster independence, confidence, and meaningful connections empowering people of all abilities to grow, thrive, and connect through the power of horses.

Founded in 2000, Northland Therapeutic Riding Center (NTRC) is a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center located just 23 miles north of Kansas City, Missouri. On our 32-acre farm complete with indoor & outdoor arenas, pastures, and a sensory trail participants discover the healing and empowering bond between people and horses.

NTRC offers two program formats: mounted adaptive riding lessons led by Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors, and unmounted one-on-one sessions with Instructors of Equine Specialists in Mental Health and Learning. These equine-assisted services support children and adults with a wide range of disabilities. Some goals include strengthening muscles, improving balance & coordination, focus, as well as social and emotional regulation skills.

At the heart of it all are the volunteers! Who walk beside participants, lead horses, or work behind the scenes to create a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment. Together volunteers contribute an average of 900 hours each month, making independence, confidence, and joy possible for every participant while reminding us that learning and growth can be fun for everyone.
