First established in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1880, the Merrimack Valley YMCA is one of the oldest YMCA’s in the United States. For more than a century, the Merrimack Valley YMCA has responded to the needs of adults, youth and families throughout the Merrimack Valley region. Through innovative programs, broad membership opportunities, and vital community services, we strive to instill the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Covering a geographical area of approximately 113 square miles and a population of 200,000, the Merrimack Valley YMCA serves over 33,000 people each year who benefit from diverse programming and services offered at one of our five branches, including Lawrence, Andover/North Andover, Methuen, Camping Services, and Housing and Community Services. Our goal is to strengthen our community by improving the quality of life and inspiring individuals and families to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body. Our diverse programs and services include: character building and leadership development for youth and teens; childcare (before, during and after school); swim lessons; aquatic safety instruction; exercise and fitness for adults and seniors; various recreational sports for all ages; day and residential youth camping; academic support; experiences in music and the arts; as well as transitional housing and supportive services for homeless men.
