Step Up Uganda—formerly Ssejinja Children’s Foundation Colorado,” was established in 2012 to conduct and expand grassroots Ugandan programs contributing to the welfare and social productivity of disadvantaged individuals and communities, with an emphasis on children and youth. Step Up Uganda focuses on the creation of community-driven programs necessary to a healthy, self-sufficient community: early education, vocational training, basic health care, and sustainable livelihoods.

We collaborate with community members at every stage of our work to ensure creation of permanent programs which are ultimately maintainable by the local community and replicable in other Ugandan communities where SUU works. Together, we address some of the most pervasive problems in rural Uganda, including health, hunger, education, poverty, gender balancing, and orphaned children.

Step Up Uganda is founded on the principles that our common humanity is more important than our individual differences. We therefore operate on a non-political, non-denominational, and non-sectarian basis, welcoming each and every Ugandan in need.
