The Huyck Preserve—a nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation, education, and research—consists of 2,000+ protected acres located 25 miles southwest of Albany. The Preserve is one of the oldest biological field stations in the United States and has supported scientific research since the 1930s when Dr. Eugene Odum, regarded as one of the founders of ecosystem ecology, made important discoveries at the Preserve. The Huyck Preserve offers a variety of educational programs and events, and its 12-miles of trails featuring a stunning waterfall and scenic lake and forest views are open to the public year-round.
