The Huyck Preserve—a nonprofit organization dedicated to watershed preservation, education, and research—consists of 2,000 protected acres located 25 miles Southwest of Albany. The Huyck Preserve is one of the oldest biological field stations in the United States and has supported research since the 1930s when Dr. Eugene Odum, regarded as the father of ecosystem ecology, made important discoveries at the Preserve. The Preserve is a wonderful destination for families and naturalists from across the Hudson Valley and Capital regions. The Huyck Preserve offers a variety of educational programs and is open for the public to enjoy its stunning waterfalls, extensive hiking trails, lake, diverse flora and fauna, and visitor center.
