Foster Grandparent & Senior Companion Programs - Felton Institute

At Felton Institute, our mission is to create meaningful connections across generations through service, compassion, and community. We proudly operate the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs in San Francisco, offering older adults (age 55 and up) the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

Through these programs, volunteers build friendships, share wisdom, and strengthen our community—one relationship at a time. Whether it’s helping a child read with confidence or offering companionship to an older adult, our volunteers are at the heart of positive change.

The Seniors Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs, operated by Felton Institute, bring caring older adults together with children and seniors who benefit from their time, kindness, and experience.

Foster Grandparent Program: Volunteers serve in schools and childcare centers throughout San Francisco, helping children learn, grow, and thrive. They provide reading support, mentorship, and encouragement—becoming trusted role models in children’s lives.

Senior Companion Program: Volunteers assist older adults who may be isolated or need extra help with everyday activities. Companions visit senior centers throughout San Francisco, offering friendship, support, and connection that improve quality of life and promote independence.

Both programs are funded by AmeriCorps Seniors and proudly operated by Felton Institute, a community-based organization committed to empowering people and strengthening connections across generations.
