How LISC Works

LISC is a national organization with a community focus. LISC’s National headquarters are New York City, with program staff also based across 31 local and rural offices, including Toledo.

In 1979, when the Ford Foundation first conceived of LISC as a national organization, it envisioned an "intermediary"-a smart and savvy non-profit that would connect hard-to-tap public and private resources with hard-to-reach communities struggling to thrive.

Since 1990, Toledo LISC has leveraged more than $233 million in grants, loans, and equity

The premise was as simple then as it is now: government, foundations and for-profit companies have the capital; residents and local institutions understand the need; and LISC Toledo bridges the gap by offering the relationships and expertise to help community organizations attract the kinds of resources that allow them do their best work. We receive our funding from banks, corporations, foundations and government agencies.

Through our local office based in Toledo, we work with a vast network of community-based partner organizations to make investments in housing, businesses, jobs, education, safety and health.
