Veterinarians without Borders-Latin America

Established in 2005, Veterinarians without Borders-Canada is a charitable not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to work with, and educate communities in need to foster the health of animals, people, and the environment that sustains us. In response to an overwhelming number of requests for assistance, we opened our Latin America regional office in Valdivia, Chile in 2009. The vast majority of families in Latin America rely on animals for survival, protection or companionship. Although there are organizations that focus on people and others that focus on animals, we bring them together to improve the lives of both, in a healthy and environmentally sustainable manner. Working in Guatemala, Peru and Chile we engage rural and urban communities in finding their own solutions to alleviating hunger and poverty through improved animal husbandry, preventing diseases transmitted by animals, educating children about healthy animal relationships, planning humane stray dog control programs, and reducing the human - animal conflict.
