Universal Chan

Universal Chan is a donation-based 501(c)(3) international Buddhist non-profit organization derived from the Chinese Chan (禪) Tradition, founded by the Chan Monk Da Xing. It operates mainly in the USA, Asia, and Europe, but we are open to be active in other countries as well.

The real meaning of Chan is “Genuine Enlightenment” or even “Buddhahood Itself,” that is, Realizing the Supreme Way Directly.

Here we do not do any indoctrination; it is actually quite the opposite—we advocate to let go of all doctrines and ideas so that our Inherent Great Luminous Wisdom will be able to function.

The goal of the organization and of its affiliations is to spread the Chan Teachings to deeply benefit those interested in learning the essence of the Buddha’s teachings.

Every Monday and Thursday evening at 7:00pm we have a Dharma talk and meditation led by Chan monk Da Xing. At Universal Chan we do a wide variety of activities ranging from those more commonly practiced in many Buddhist centers, such as sitting meditation, to lesser known methods such as exercise and bowing Chan. Our Center also offers yoga, tai chi, and qigong. Some of our weekly events include Hiking Chan and Meditative Tea Tasting classes. In addition, we provide retreats of different time lengths in California and abroad to beginners, advanced practitioners, and monastics. All of our programs, activities, and events are donation-based. Your generosity will help us to continue to serve the community.
