We are led by these fundamental principles: to prevent and alleviate human suffering, to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being; no discrimination as to nationality, race,religious beliefs,class or political opinions; no taking of sides in hostilities or engaging in any type of controversies; national societies must always maintain their autonomy; to ensure voluntary service is not prompted by desire for gain; to unite under one Red Cross in any one country; and to be equally universal worldwide.

Mission Statement The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
