Harambee is a Swahili word which means, "bringing together all the resources of a village to make it a better place to live and grow”. It was in this spirit of community that Harambee Community Development Initiative, Inc. (Harambee) was formed in 1994. Harambee is committed to the economic, educational, and social transformation activities and best practices that directly or even indirectly impact the lives of children, youth, women, and families. We recognize the concomitant benefit of such activities to the communities of Greater Newark.
