Hospice is a concept of caring, rather than a specific location. In medieval times, hospice meant a refuge where weary travelers could find rest and comfort. As we know it today, hospice is where those with a life-threatening illness can spend their final days in peace, dignity, and comfort, surrounded by loved ones.
In hospice care, the emphasis is on palliative care and quality of life. Every effort is made to make the patient as comfortable as possible and fulfill the distinct wishes of the patient and their family. There is practical, emotional and spiritual support available for all involved.
