Kids Like Us is a non-profit organization dedicated to the literacy learning of children in urban schools. We believe one of the keys to becoming an excellent reader and writer is having access to outstanding literature that reflects and values our lives. We help urban public school teachers get access to high-quality children's books in which their students can see themselves -- books with characters that look like them, speak like them, live in neighborhoods like theirs, and have experiences they can relate to. We're also a source of information and support to teachers for training in high-quality literacy instruction and the use of culturally relevant trade books to accelerate reading and writing development.
