During June 2016, Towson University will be welcoming 26 students from Max
Planck Gymnasium (High School) in Delmenhorst, Germany. Towson University
has been welcoming students from Max Planck for nearly two decades. The
program introduces students to higher education in the U.S., provides them with
English language instruction and the opportunity to explore U.S. culture
through visits to nearby cities and a week-long homestay experience with a
local-area family.
We are actively recruiting families to participate in the
homestay component, which will be take place from June 17th through June 24th
(Friday through Friday). During weekdays, students will have structured
classes and or off-campus excursions during the 9 to 5 time frame.
Families will bring them to campus in the morning and pick them up in the
evening.
Attached /linked is our homestay application form for families (a
similar form is completed by students). Completing this form provides us
with information about you and your family and allows us to make the best
student-family pairings. Ideally we would like families to host two
students as it helps to ameliorate the stresses of plunging into a new
environment. However, we fully understand that this may not be possible
and are appreciative of all families who host any number of students. If
you have interest, please complete the form and email us a scanned copy or send
it to us via post at International Partnerships; 8000 York Road; Towson, MD
21252. During the 2016 summer, we will be welcoming students from South
Korea, Peru, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Turkey and China. Our TUFI Host Family
Dinner program provides the opportunity for local-area families to welcome
short-term international visitors for a meal/s at their home. If you have
interest in this type of exchange, please write to us and we will follow up with
more information.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about
either experience. Our most urgent item is to place all German students
with families, but we are actively building a contact-list of potential families, even if you are unable to volunteer in June, as we will be regularly welcoming small cohorts of students from around the world throughout the years ahead. We hope your family is able to participate and we would
greatly appreciate it if you could spread the word to other families that would
also enjoy this unique international-exchange program experience. We deeply appreciate that you might consider opening your hearts and homes to young people visiting America for the first time, while also introducing your family to the wider world. Please see our portal on Facebook, at which you can review and download an application!
