People for Guatemala, an official charity in the U.S., was founded in 2010 to raise donations for projects in Guatemala. Founders Ken & Lois Werner live full time near La Antigua, Guatemala. Our in-country partner is Hombres y Mujeres en Accion. There are 8 employees, all nationals, and we focus on health and education working in remote Mayan villages in San Martin, Jilotepeque. We teach Mayans how to work together in groups to access resources to make permanent changes for their families and in their communities. Over 32,000 people have benefited from our health clinics, water projects, school construction, scholarships, Chapina stove installations, teacher/student classroom support over the past 5 years.
