Open Door Exchange

The mission of Open Door Exchange is to collect gently used furniture and redistribute it to people in need—those transitioning from homelessness, military service, or displacement following a disaster, or those who simply cannot afford to purchase furniture because the cost of living on Long Island is so high. We believe that furniture is an often-overlooked essential for people who are seeking stability and a better future. Furniture allows a family to eat together sitting at a table. Furniture gives children a place to do homework. Furniture provides the opportunity to invite guests into one’s home. Furniture is necessary for a good night’s sleep. Too many families on Long Island are living in homes without the most basic furniture, and many people have furniture to share. The furniture we collect is given new life in a new home, rather than adding to landfills, which furthers our commitment to environmental stewardship.
