  • Acerca de

The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation (LOF), founded by Khaled bin Sultan, is conducting the world’s largest coral reef survey and high resolution mapping expedition, as part of a 5 year Global Reef Expedition.

The Global Reef Expedition is helping LOF realize its mission of providing science-based solutions to protect and restore ocean health. The primary scientific goals of the Expedition are to map and characterize coral reef ecosystems, identify their current status and major threats, and examine factors that enhance their capacity to resist, survive and rapidly recover from major disturbance events. The Expedition has studied coral reef ecosystems all over the world, including the Andros and Abaco Islands, Bahamas; St. Kitts and Nevis; Jamaica; Colombia; Galapagos Islands, Ecuador; Society Islands, French Polynesia; Cook Islands; Fiji; Tonga; and New Caledonia.

As part of its commitment to Science Without Borders®, the Expedition's findings will be shared freely with participating countries and scientific and regulatory organizations, and will be used by countries for developing sound management strategies for coral reefs.
