The Estuary & Ocean Science Center (formerly the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies), is a collaboration of researchers and educators on the Romberg Tiburon Campus of San Francisco State University. The EOS Center welcomes students and scholars from SF State, and elsewhere, to study and conduct research at the only marine laboratory located on the shore of San Francisco Bay. We are a gateway for scientific study of the extraordinary diversity of marine and coastal ecosystems nearby including the San Francisco Estuary and its tidal marshes and eelgrass meadows, and the sandy beaches, rocky shores, esteros, lagoons and open ocean ecosystems just beyond the Golden Gate.
We offer a diversity of research and educational opportunities through the SF Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) program and our partnership with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, both co-located with the EOS Center on the SF State Romberg Tiburon Campus.
The EOS Center supports the volunteer-led Bay Shore Studies program held at the Richardson Bay Audubon Center and Sanctuary, in partnership with RBACS. Bay Shore Studies is an educational, place-based program that brings out the natural scientists in 3rd-5th grade students.
