The Akshaya Patra Foundation in Assam

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an NGO which feeds millions of underserved children in India. Its efforts are directed towards eradicating hunger and malnutrition in the country by implementing its school lunch programme – the largest such NGO-run initiative in the world – in Government and Government-aided schools. With its philosophy of ‘unlimited food for education’, Akshaya Patra aims to not only fight hunger with nutritious meals but also bring children to school. In Assam, the Foundation has an ISO-certified centralised kitchen which reaches out to 47,249 children in 607 schools.

Akshaya Patra established its presence in Assam in the February 2010 with a centralised kitchen in Guwahati, with hygiene and cleanliness as its utmost priority. This kitchen currently feeds 47,249 school children in 607 Government and Government-aided schools.
