Down Syndrome Society of Kenya is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-political organization that engages in research, information dissemination, education, and therapeutic intervention programs to promote the welfare of those living with Down syndrome in Kenya.
Down syndrome is caused by a chromosomal disorder during conception. It leads to developmental delays, learning disabilities and physical defects such as hearing difficulties and, in some cases, heart conditions. Over 40,000 people have Down syndrome in Kenya.
These programs improve the quality of life of persons with Down syndrome and enable them live with independence and dignity.
