Acerca de

LESCOTA serves the 350,000 people living in Mbinga District of the Ruvuma region of Tanzania. The Ruvuma region is the southeastern most area of Tanzania, bordering on Lake Malawi and the country of Malawi to the west and Mozambique to the south.

Mbinga is the second smallest district in Ruvuma, yet with approximately 103 people per square kilometer, it is the densest in the region (according to Mbinga Town Council*). Its area is mainly rural with less than 25% of the area urbanized. The population is relatively young with 53% of the people iin the range of 0-19 years of age. It is one of the most rural and poor areas in Tanzania.

Established in 2012, LESCOTA works to build thriving, resilient communities in Mbinga. They recognize that in today’s knowledge-driven economies, access to education is key to getting a job, escaping poverty, supporting one’s family, and becoming an engaged member of the community. Thus, the English-speaking primary school in Matekela built by LESCOTA in 2018 is LESCOTA’s foremost effort at this time. Other LESCOTA efforts include water, sanitation projects, agriculture and sustainability programs and projects.

LESCOTA is a nonprofit organization with a registration number 00NGO-0005594 under the Non-Governmental Organization Act, made under section 12(2) of Act no 24 of 2002.

LESCOTA is a 501(c)(3) organization registered in USA.
